In 1999 four women recognized a huge gender gap in the competitive cycling scene in the Mid-Atlantic region. Women had minimal opportunities to race and even less support.
Subsequently, Artemis Racing, Inc. was formed with a mission to:
- Promote the healthy development of individuals in the sport of cycling with a primary focus on women,
- Encourage active participation in the sport of competitive cycling at the pace best suited to each individual, and
- Conduct community outreach programs and activities that promote, educate and assist with adopting healthy and active lifestyles
Our team is comprised of cyclists who compete in all four disciplines: Road, Track, Mountain and Cyclocross dedicated to providing a positive and safe environment for the development of aspiring cyclists. Our primary goal is to introduce women to the sport by providing them with the tools and knowledge needed, not only to continue and progress in the sport, but also to pay it forward.
Artemis is well-known and respected throughout the cycling community and has been recognized by USA Cycling, our sport’s governing body, as Women’s Club of the Year and Overall Club of the Year. We have changed the face of women’s cycling in the Mid-Atlantic region. Our model and its success have extended to other clubs throughout the region and beyond.
We are extremely proud of the achievements of our team and take great pride in the diversity of our team members. Collectively, our members compete in over 300 cycling races every year and have won numerous races and championships over the years at the regional, national and international level.
